HAIR OILS FOR CURLS

    DID YOU KNOW?

There are many ways to use hair oils!
But is it a must-have for every curl type? 🤷‍♀️

👉 We'll tell you why and how you should use hair oils for your curls.

    hair oils

👩🏻‍🦱 Every curl type is unique, but all curl types have one thing in common: curls tend to be dry . The natural and nourishing oil that our scalp produces has a hard time fighting its way through our textured strands. This means that curly hair can often be very dry, especially at the ends.

💆🏻‍♀️ The use of oils is not only intended for the outer structure of your hair (cuticle), but also for the inner structure (cortex) beneficial. It gives the hair more shine, makes it supple and makes it easier to detangle. It also reduces the number of knots and split ends.

    Chemical composition of oils

Vegetable oils have different molecular structures. In order for us to know which oils penetrate or seal hair, we need to know an oil's triglyceride and fatty acid content.

🔎 The amount of triglycerides and the way the components of triglycerides are arranged tell you whether an oil can penetrate the hair or not. The lipid molecules have to be small to penetrate the hair. These oils must have less than 18-20 carbon atoms.

Triglycerides in oils are 3 fatty acid molecules attached to a glycerol "backbone". The short-chain lipids generally consist of straight chains without branches, making them small and compact.

💡 Additionally, the triglyceride components in vegetable oils can be polar (slightly positively charged), making them attracted to the polar (negatively charged) proteins in hair.

    ENVELOPING OILS (SEALING OILS)

    • sweet almond oil
    • jojoba oil
    • grapeseed oil
    • argan oil

👉 These oils make hair shiny, soft and easy to detangle. They lock in the moisture. Low porosity hair needs more of these oils and fewer penetrating oils.

    PENETRATING OILS

    • coconut oil
    • olive oil
    • sunflower oil
    • avocado oil
    • Babassu
    • palm kernel oil
    • castor oil

When hair gets wet, it stretches and swells. This repeated process of expanding and contracting the hair can damage the hair.

👉 By applying oils that penetrate the hair, one can reduce the swelling and swelling of the hair. Very porous hair will love these oils as they help prevent water penetration.

    ADDITIONAL INFO:

Oils are not per se moisturizers, but they do prevent the loss of moisture. That is, oils don't add water or hydrate the hair, but serve as a kind of protective layer.
