THE 10 BEST TIPS TO START YOUR CURLS JOURNEY

Do you feel the same way: your friends either have straight hair or voluminous curls.
    Are you somewhere in between?

You probably already suspect that you have structured hair and just didn't know how to care for it properly? Maybe you didn't dare to present your curly hair.

At SARI CURLS, we want to accompany you on your curls journey and encourage you to love your natural hair structure.

Getting started can be a little overwhelming, so we want to share these 10 tips to help you transition into your natural hair texture.

Are you ready to discover the beauty of your curls and create your personal curl story?

Here are our tips for you:

    1) BE KIND AND EMPATHETIC TO YOURSELF.

    It's a new level of self-love.

First of all, it is important to accept your hair as it is. In addition, they probably need rest from your previous care - This can be challenging and takes some getting used to.
Your words and thoughts should therefore not be self-destructive. How would you encourage a friend when she's self-doubting or uncomfortable? Exactly, with empathy and love. You are worth it too. When you look at yourself in the mirror and the curls aren't perfect, take a deep breath and get creative (See point 10). You and your curls need a lot of love and encouragement, especially in this phase (in addition to the right products), because it is also unusual to wear curls every day.

    2) FRIZZ ISN'T A BAD THING.

And, to a certain extent, completely normal.

We've gotten used to seeing people on social media with top styled hair where not a strand is sticking out. That doesn't correspond to reality. Curls in particular are individual in their natural splendor and, depending on care and preference, more voluminous. Over time, you'll learn to get used to frizz and not wanting to smooth every strand, it's part of natural curls after all.

    3) DON'T COMPARE YOURSELF & YOUR CURLS TO OTHERS.

There is only one of you and your hair structure in the world.

There are no two people in the world, just like your hair structure does not exist again in the world. Therefore, comparing yourself to others on social media is of no use to you. What you see there is meant as inspiration, not a one-size-fits-all solution. Keep in mind that this is mostly hair that has just been washed and styled.

Let yourself be inspired and try out how you can use the tips and tricks. It has to feel right for you and your hair.

    4) WHICH RECOMMENDATIONS ARE THE RIGHT ONES?

Pay attention to which recommendation you accept from whom.

Colleague raves about the mousse from the drugstore and that you  absolutely have to try it. You can see her hair looks pretty good from it and are you considering the mousse too?

We would advise against buying products recommended by people who don't know your hair. Again, curl needs differ from person to person. Therefore, the same product cannot do the same thing for everyone. It's better to look at the ingredients and what the product promises beforehand.

    5) GET TO KNOW YOUR HAIR.

This is the only way you can make the right decisions.

Buying products that have been blindly recommended to you will frustrate you faster than you can pull out your credit card. As tempting as it may be, we advise you to study the characteristics of your hair. This includes, for example, your hair porosity and elasticity. All the answers to your questions about your individual needs can be found here .

    6) LESS IS MORE.

Buy products in small sizes whenever possible.

If you're not sure which products you need, even though you've analyzed them in great detail, some brands also have travel sets or small sizes. Maybe it will help you to test them and let the results convince you. Make sure that you test the products for 2-3 weeks to get an idea.
Unless you are allergic to these products. In this case, you should stop using it immediately.

    7) TAKE PICTURES TO SEE YOUR PROGRESS.

    But only in between.

That means about once a week, every 2 weeks or when you see your curls changing.
What you shouldn't do is stare at yourself in the mirror for hours every day, examining every strand of hair in selfies. Here your inner critic (or perfectionist) will plague you and in the worst case you will work with products that only strain your hair unnecessarily.

    8) AVOID HEAT TREATING YOUR HAIR.

But wear it how you feel comfortable.
The straightening iron or the hair dryer do not necessarily have to be thrown away. You alone have to know how and if you want to care for your curls. If you decide to mostly use your curls, you can use a diffuser on medium heat to help them dry faster. However, the more heat you use, the more moisture is lost from the hair.

If you want to smooth them out in between, make sure you use a good heat protectant. On your next wash day, it's a good idea to rejuvenate your curls with a balanced routine.

    9) BREAK THE HABIT OF WASHING YOUR HAIR EVERY DAY.

Even if the adjustment doesn't feel so great.

Curls don't need to be washed every day, and they don't respond very well to it either. Skip daily washing so the natural oils can nourish your hair.
Depending on the hair type or needs, we recommend washing your hair a maximum of 2-3 times a week. If you do a lot of sport, we recommend a somewhat extensive refresh to freshen up the scalp and strands.
Here 's a suggestion of what that might look like.

    10) GET CREATIVE WITH HAIRSTYLES...

...bad hair days don't have to be bad days.

Before you reach for the frustrated flat iron, there are a number of protective, curl-friendly hairstyles that also look beautiful.
Maybe you want to give them a chance first and save your curls from the heat. But they look all the nicer after the next day of washing, I promise!
